Snowglide tools Sidewall cutter Push Off

Description

Details

Snowglide tools Sidewall cutter Push Off is used PUSHED down the ski with lite pressure, NOT pulled as traditional other sidewall planning tools on the market. Unlike other sidewall planers, the PUSH-OFF requires very little pressure. This allows for smoother cutting and more precise control. It has a special brake button. Tightens the cutter shaft when needed to reduce vibration during cutting. Not typically need for sidewall bumper removal, helps in large sidewall removal.

Instructions to use

In order to properly tune edges sharp, it is necessary and common to have to perform what is known as "sidewall planing" to allow uninhibited access for a file or a tuning machine to precisely sharpen the metal edge. Ski manufacturer's machinery does a basic job and typically the sidewall is machined at the same angle as the angle of the edge. To properly sharpen a ski edge the sidewall or more specifically the the "sidewall bumper" or "Sidewall lip" (the protruding material just above the metal edge, can be plastic sidewall as well fiberglass and/or aluminum needs to be trimmed away or removed. By removing a portion of the side lip/bumper, the file/tuning machine has unobstructed access to the metal edge...see FIG#2. If sidewall planning is done you are able to get the most precise edge angle and sharpness. If sidewall trimming is not performed the file/tuning machine will not be able to cut the metal part of the edge and simply tries to cut the plastic sidewall, which a file nor a tuning machine can do and will just burn and gum up the file or stone. Sidewall need to be cut away to have clean access to the metal edge. The sidewall bumper gives the ski edge strength, so you want to remove only a small amount at a time. Be carefull not to remove too much sidewall in 1 time, as it will make the edge strength a bit more fragile. Typically remove enough to allow you to tune 3 or 4 times. As you continue to tune, the edge will start to match the sidewall again and you will need to perform the side planing again. and so on for the life of the ski.

Carrot electric Side Wall cutter (planner), SL-GS

After 12 months of research and design, Comax has developed a new electric tool to remove side walls. It increases the quality of work whilst reducing operation time. Thanks to it’s three simultaneous movements the new tool leaves a quality finished side wall. The product was immediately patented to ensure it’s uniqueness as there is nothing similar on the market. Technically the side wall tool works by two adjustable axis movements and one removal movement, it is very compact, ergonomic and as all Carrot products, it allows the first time user to very quickly gain confidence after a few passes. It’s possible to have three different blade sizes that have been developed after consultations with World Cup ski technicians. The differences is in the cutter length, the longer size is used for DH / SG speed skis, the middle size for GS / SL and the shorter for children's skis. Like all Carrot products our philosophy for the development of the side wall machine is to increase the quality of work whilst reducing the working time. Everything is developed internally by COMAX. Cutter L.18,11mm x Ø 20mm for SL-GS. For approx. 1000 pair of skis.
